The study concerns the creation of the Arme Blindée Museum in Saumur, related to the Application school of the Arme Blindée Cavalerie. This museum is part of the Armée de Terre museum network as the Blindée museum also located in Saumur.
Yesterday’s cavalry and the arme blindée of today generated a rich historical heritage that deserves to be valued on a privileged site.
The museographic spaces are set in the carrousel former stables built in 1826-1827 and extended in 1858-1859 on the former fair trade area of the city. The building is located in the downtown of Saumur, in a remarkable environment.
The museum tracks down the history of cavalry since the creation of the compagnie d’ordonnance in 1945, the arme blindée and then the arme blindée cavalry.
The museographic path is chronologically organized and divided in 3 sections:
- From the Cavalry birth to the armies of the Revolution
- The cavalry from the First to the Second Empire
- From the Third Republic to the today arme blindée cavalry
